FAQs
-
Sync licensing is when a song is licensed to be used alongside visual media.
That could mean hearing your song in a movie, TV show, commercial, video game, or many other types of visual media.
When a song is selected for a project, the artist and other rights holders are paid permission to use their music. The artist keeps ownership of their music while allowing it to become part of a story, scene, or brand.
-
NexChord does not obtain any ownership of your music through our sync agreement.
We pride ourselves on providing artist-friendly deals and on our founding value to give every artist a fair shot.
-
Nope! We accept any artist regardless of your label status (unless you are signed to a label and have exclusive terms with them)
-
We highly recommend being registered with a Performing Rights Organization so that you can properly collect publishing royalties for your song.
Not registered? No worries! Please feel free to still apply and if your song(s) is selected, we will work with you to help you register.
-
There is no cost to submit your music for sync consideration.
-
We recommend using songs that are already released, or are set to release within 30 days; however, this is not a hard restriction and we are open to including songs outside of that timeline.
PRO TIP: Its a good idea to have your song copyrighted, especially if you are submitting places before their release. Not sure how to do that? We can do that for you!
-
Our agreement is non-exclusive, meaning we do not prohibit you from working from other sync agencies while signed with us. Should you choose to use any additional agencies, please check with them regarding their terms of exclusivity.
-
A representative will reach out to you regarding next steps. Signing with NexChord doesn’t automatically mean placement, but it does mean that your music will be put in the best positions to succeed.
